Foggieloan Brewery Update

New Inn 2025

The Foggieloan Brewery, located in the rear of the New Inn at Aberchirder, is one of those hidden gems which does everything very very well but doesn't sing it's own praises loud enough. Situated between Huntly, Turriff and Banff, it is worth the effort required to seek it out. Don't be confused by the local name for Aberchirder, which is also known as Foggieloan or just "Foggie". Both the brewery and the inn feature in the 2025 Good Beer Guide.

At The New Inn there are eight regular ales with four or five of those ales taking turns on the bank of 5 handpulls. Four of the ales are less than 4% so excellent for a session, start with either the Marnoch Mist or the Foggie Mild, and take it from there. The 5.5% Auld Broon dark porter should be reserved for the end of the night!

Foggieloan Brewery Beers

  • Foggie Mild, Dark, 3.3%
  • Marnoch Mist, Blonde, 3.6%
  • Foggie Harbour, IPA, 3.6%
  • Copper Smith, 3.9%
  • Work Horse, Amber, 4.2%
  • Couthy Burgh, 4.6%
  • Auld Broon, Dark Porter, 5.5%

At time of writing all of beers are only available exclusively from cask in the New Inn, with no external deliveries and no bottles to buy.  Brewer (and Master Baker) Gary is always striving forward with experimentation brewing.

Look out for the regular folk music session on the first Tuesday of every month (7:30 for 8), and make sure to ask about the outstanding home made pork pies (other flavours of pie may be available). Or perhaps eat your roast dinner in front of wood burning stove and decide to stay for a couple of nights.

You can get to Huntly by bus or train, and then catch a connecting 301 bus to Aberchirder. The last public transport from Aberchirder departs only about an hour after pub opening. With such a tremendous offering it is better to ensure you have a designated driver on your visit, and take a full car of mates with you.
