Promoting Real Ale in the North East of Scotland

Misleading Dispense

Misleading dispense occurs when a pub advertises the sale of Real Ale but actually only sells Keg products, or when the pub chooses to use a handpump on any non-real ale/cider product.

At best, any bar choosing to sell keg beer coupled to misleading dispense equipment is risking their customers (and, on occasions, bar staff) presuming such a beer is cask-conditioned from familiarity with real beer engines. At worst, a bar can falsely claim the beer is actual cask to deliberately mislead their customers – who may then pay more for cask beer than the equivalent beer in keg form.

Any bar using misleading dispense is ineligible for inclusion in the Good Beer Guide.
