The Guide is a valuable campaigning tool and CAMRA still wishes to promote pubs and breweries despite the challenges faced in compiling it this year. There are huge benefits for pubs that feature in the Guide and feedback has been received from licensees about how important it is to publish. Please be assured that CAMRA does not want to publish a re-hash of the 2021 edition. Procedures are being put in place to ensure that the Good Beer Guide is as relevant and up-to-date as it can be given the current situation. With the majority of pubs currently closed and many having experienced restrictions on their ability to open over the past year, it is obvious that there will have to be a flexible mindset and short-term changes made to normal selection processes for the 2022 edition of the Guide.

It was decided to reduce the number of entries in the Guide this year to circa 3,600 (a reduction of approximately 20%). This will mean that the Aberdeen branch can nominate proportionately fewer pubs. However as we already know of some pubs in our Branch Area which are no longer trading but which may have been expected to be in the Guide, no worthy pub should be disadvantaged.

The schedule for compiling the guide is different this year, with publication scheduled for 28th October 2021. The Guide publication team have put the date for nominations back six weeks to 19th April from the usual early March date. The committee of the Aberdeen branch have met (via Zoom) to discuss how to respond and that response is described in the voting instructions. We ask that you return your voting form by 15th March 2021 to allow the votes to be collated and submitted to HQ by the 19th April 2021.
