POTY 2023 St. Machar Bar

Congratulations to the St. Machar Bar in Old Aberdeen, which was marginally preferred to the Redgarth in Oldmeldrum and Helgi's in Kirkwall as the 2023 Overall Pub of the Year.

POTY 2024 Globe Inn

The Overall Branch Pub of the Year (POTY) 2024 is the Globe Inn in North Silver Street, just pipping the Redgarth, Helgi's Bar and the Ravenswood to the title.

Prince of Wales (Aberdeen)

One of the oldest bars in Aberdeen, the Prince of Wales has possibly the longest bar counter in the city, a friendly atmosphere and a large following of regulars. It was refurbished in late 2016 and is listed in Scotland's True Heritage Pubs.

Queen Vic (Aberdeen)

One room lounge bar slightly off the beaten track in a converted former opticians/ baker’s shop in the highly populated, tenement flatted area of Rosemount. Sporting events shown from time to time so may be extremely busy and noisy.

Queen's Hotel (Stonehaven)

Family run Hotel in the heart of Stonehaven providing Accommodation, Bar and Lounge areas, and quality home cooked meals. Belhaven Best.

Queens Arms (Inverbervie)

Open plan bar with wooden flooring throughout on main thoroughfare of the village. No real ale.

Quiet Brewery (Banchory)

This is a "nano" or kitchen brewery, supplying a range of bottled beers to Buchanan's restaurant, adjacent to Woodend Barn Arts Centre.

Raemoir House (Banchory)

Country house estate and wedding venue with function rooms and the "Big Fish" bar.

Railway Inn (Banff)

Boozer with good whisky range.

Ramsay Arms (Fettercairn)

In the shadow of the Victoria Commemorative Arch, erected in recognition of the Queen's first trip to the North East of Scotland when she spent the night in the hotel, its Victorian heritage lends itself to the cuisine in the open, modern lounge.

Ravenswood Legion (Banchory)

Large British Legion Club which welcomes CAMRA members and bearers of the Good Beer Guide as guests. A comfortable lounge adjoins the pool and TV room and there is a spacious function room well utilised by local clubs and societies as well as members.

Red Lion (Aberdeen)

A basic boozer with an interesting ceiling. Known locally as "The Beastie". No real ale.

Red Lion (Forres)

The public bar is currently undergoing renovation to save it from closure. Previously had real ale but a survey will be required once work is complete.

Red Star (Kirkton of Skene)

This friendly community pub is situated in the centre of a small village at the edge of the Aberdeen commuter belt. Opened in 1948, the pub has a restaurant/lounge and a public bar, well-patronised by local residents. Handpump now removed and no prospect of a return.

Redgarth (Oldmeldrum)

This local inn and pub has excellent views of the eastern Grampian mountains. A warm welcome is guaranteed. Under the same ownership for over 30 years and the emphasis is on excellent quality beers.

The 10th of January 2020 was a landmark in the life of one of the best Real Ale pubs in Scotland, if not in Britain, the Redgarth in Oldmeldrum.

Reel (Kirkwall, Orkney)

Primarily a music venue and café run by local traditional music luminaries the Wrigley Sisters. Favoured gathering and performing place for professionals and local amateurs with visiting players welcome to join in the informal traditional music sessions in the evening.

Regent Bridge (Aberdeen)

One of the few survivors of all of the pubs that used to be along Regent Quay in the days of dockside pub crawls. A proper dockside boozer, may still have sawdust.

Reids Gold Brewing (Stonehaven)

The birth of Reids Gold Brewing Company happened back in 2013 after a craft beer home brew kit was given as a Christmas present to its founder Barry Reid. First ale for sale to trade in 2018.

Revolucion de Cuba (Aberdeen)

Nestled in the Academy Centre Courtyard, lies a rum-lover’s paradise. Latin-inspired food, tapas, classic and cocktails. Part of a chain of similar places nationally.

Revolution (Aberdeen)

Revolution is situated on the busy Belmont Street. Split over two levels, the lower bar opens out onto an outdoor deck with impressive views of the city’s Union Terrace Garden and a retractable roof for al-fresco drinks. Food served.

Richmond Arms (Tomintoul)

Large, imposing hotel in second highest village in Scotland. Small public bar right of entrance and larger lounge to the left where you will find the 2 handpumps. Only one cask ale in winter months (October to Easter).

Rileys (Aberdeen)

Dark sports bar hiding at the end of a dingy cul-de-sac. Small door leads upstairs to cavernous bar with multiple Dart Boards, American Pool, British Pool and Snooker tables with 2 Private rooms.

Rocksley Inn (Boddam)

Hotel with lounge bar.
